Jackson Creek Parkway
Widening Project

Working to accommodate future growth in Monument, Colorado

Northern El Paso County and the Monument area specifically, have experienced tremendous growth over the past few years and are poised for additional growth with new developments taking shape. The Town of Monument has initiated an improvements plan for completing the vision of a widened Jackson Creek Parkway from Baptist Road to Highway 105. The plan is designed to accommodate growth along the corridor while also maintaining the desired “small town feel” that Monument is known for.

Jackson Creek Parkway

The Jackson Creek Parkway Widening Project is part of an overall improvements program designed to address community needs and desires for the entire corridor that will also accommodate existing and future development.

The widening project specifically involves expanding Jackson Creek Parkway from one lane in each direction to two lanes in each direction, extending the four-lane configuration from Higby Road north to the intersection of Highway 105. The project also includes drainage improvements, median landscaping, pedestrian and bike pathways, and “Gateway” treatments.

Jackson Creek Parkway Corridor

Jackson Creek Parkway is a critical north-south arterial roadway in Monument providing a parallel to Interstate-25 and access to major retailers, businesses, and residents. Prior road improvements south of Higby Road expanded the two-lane road into four lanes with turn lanes, sidewalks, bike lanes, and a landscaped median to match the streetscape theme along adjacent corridors. The Jackson Creek Parkway Widening Project extends the four-lane configuration north to Highway 105.

Several projects are taking place along or adjacent to the Jackson Creek Parkway corridor and in some cases will overlap with the widening project.  The Town of Monument and the Jackson Creek Parkway Widening Project team are coordinating with other jurisdictional entities and private developers to minimize public inconvenience as much as possible.  See the Project Map tab for a list of projects currently planned along the north end of Jackson Creek Parkway.

  • “Interim” turn lane improvements on Jackson Creek Parkway to support adjacent development, prepared by developer and approved by the Town of Monument. Given that portions of the Monument Junction Development (located north of the YMCA) are occurring prior to the completion of corridor widening plans, “Interim” roadway design plans by the developer support this initial development. These design plans include northbound dual left turn lanes onto Highway 105, westbound dual left turn lanes onto Jackson Creek Parkway and an eastbound right turn lane onto Jackson Creek Parkway.

  • “Ultimate” intersection improvements at Highway 105, prepared by the developer and approved by the Town of Monument, El Paso County and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).

The design plans provide turn lanes along Jackson Creek Parkway into the development at multiple locations. The intersection improvements with Highway 105 involve multiple jurisdictions and so will be constructed after the “interim” improvements.

  • Completion of the remaining “ultimate” roadway widening improvements along Jackson Creek Parkway. The Town of Monument has contracted with the engineering firm of FHU for the ultimate design of the Jackson Creek Parkway widening and roadway improvements from Higby Road to Highway 105. Design plans are currently underway with construction anticipated for 2025. Plans include the full 4-lane roadway section with raised median, along with associated left and right turn lanes and signalization designs at all required intersections and sidewalk both sides.
